On Page SEO

Hmm.. any obvious clues?

Just what is "on page" SEO? Well its all the obvious things.

Content

Is there lots of content on the chosen keywords? Search engines need content in order to understand exactly what they are dealing with. The search engines "bots", or snouts as we prefer to call them scour the Web looking for things to index. Mainly it is looking for content. After all content is what people using the Web are trying to find. There is a phrase in SEO circles that goes: "Content is king.". This is true to a certain extent. So ensure the page you are looking to have ranked well has plenty of content.

Meta Tags

Delve a little deeper in to the source code of a web page and you will see its "meta data". meta data, or meta tags are little pieces of code that only search engine bots can see. They tell the bots what the page they are reading is about. They can tell the bot the title of the page, the author, the keywords, they can give a description of the page, and can even tell the bot how many times it should visit.

ALT Tags

ALT Tags, or alternative tags are another way of giving a bot information about the page. ALT Tags should especially be given to images, as a bot has no way of knowing what an image represents. An ALT Tag will give it this information.

Coding

The coding of the website is important in that it should be clean and free from bugs. It should be search engine friendly, and a good idea is to have it validated by the World Wide Web Consortium.
